About Palski
I’ve been doing this a while, and I still love it.
I’ve spent more than 27 years working in technology and watching the way we build software change completely.
Today, I work independently across product ideas, design, development and launch. Sometimes that means an iPhone app. Sometimes it’s a web product, an internal tool or an automation that takes a tedious job off someone’s plate.
AI has changed what one person can realistically create, and that’s the part I find exciting. I can explore an idea, build it, put it in front of people and learn from it without needing a huge team around me.
I still care about the same things I always have: whether something is clear, whether it works well and whether it deserves to exist.

01What makes an idea worth building?
Usually, there’s something mildly annoying at the beginning of it.
I pay attention to things people repeatedly work around, forget, avoid or make more complicated than they need to be. If I can see a simpler way through it, there might be a product there.
02What have you learned from releasing your own apps?
You learn far more once something leaves your laptop.
Features that seemed obvious suddenly aren’t. Things you thought mattered sometimes don’t. And occasionally someone uses the product in a way you never expected.
That feedback is worth far more than endlessly polishing something in private.
03What’s difficult about building on your own?
Knowing when enough is enough.
There is always another feature you could add, another screen you could redesign and another idea trying to distract you.
A big part of the job is deciding what deserves your attention — and what can wait.
04Where does AI fit into the way you work?
Pretty much everywhere, but it isn’t making the decisions for me.
I use AI to research, explore ideas, prototype, write code, test approaches and get through repetitive work more efficiently.
It gives me leverage. The judgement about what gets built and how it should feel is still mine.
05Why both mobile and web?
Because the product should decide the platform.
Some ideas make sense as something you reach for on your phone. Others need the space and flexibility of the web.
I’m much more interested in choosing the right home for an idea than forcing everything into the same format.
06What are you working on now?
MOTRYN is the next product currently taking shape — a place to keep the history of your car without digging through paperwork, emails and gloveboxes.
There are more ideas behind it too. There usually are.
